Variegated Sweet Iris is an easy to grow perennial that I would have in my garden even if it didn’t bloom. Its amazing sword-shaped leaves are variegated with green and soft gold in the early part of the season. Later, the gold ages to white for a unique effect. Its springtime blooms of light lavender-blue have an unusual sweet fragrance that reminds me of grape Kool-Aid or grape soda. Full sun is best, but it will tolerate a little shade. A native of Italy, this species species is one of the parents of the tall bearded Iris hybrids.
