There has been a lot of breeding and selecting going on with Purple Fountain Grasses during the last few years. The most exciting break through is from the breeding program of Dr. Wayne Hannah of the University of Georgia with his amazing new Princess Caroline. Named for one of his granddaughters, this stunning selection has extra wide leaf blades colored dark purple to nearly black. The leaves arch nicely forming attractive ribbony mounds that somewhat resemble purple phormiums which are hard to grow here. Princess Caroline Purple Fountain Grass is an excellent ornamental grass for Oklahoma because of its durability, heat tolerance and strong color display.
